My role as a KEP volunteer: Being a qualified teacher, you’ll travel from the UK to train our beneficiary teachers in Nigeria on modern teaching methodologies and practices. As part of the program benefits, you’ll collaborate with our team in developing lesson plans to ensure they align with educational objectives. The lesson plan would cover a diverse array of topics on modern teaching methods including but not limited to inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, collaborative learning, engagement strategies, differentiation instruction, lesson design, assessment for learning, technology integration, critical thinking, and problem solving. Your expertise is highly valued, and we provide you with the autonomy you need to make meaningful contributions. Upon arrival in Nigeria, you’ll deliver training sessions on assigned topics while also working closely with our partner teachers from the ACE Radio School to record audio materials of lessons. Additionally, you’ll lead the assessment process for beneficiary teachers, playing a vital role in their professional development.
The selection process: The selection process for our program begins with the completion of the registration form. Following this, we assess you based on the required qualifications. Successful candidates will then be invited for an interview. Upon acceptance; and relevant background checks; you will become part of our pool of volunteers and will receive onboarding; along with relevant information provided through our Teachers guide. Subsequently, you will be presented with a schedule to choose from, with the flexibility to participate in multiple sessions as desired.
Selection criteria: To join our pool, a minimum requirement is necessary due to its competitive nature. You will need to possess the following:
- Relevant U.K Teacher qualification
- Minimum of 4-5 years of work experience teaching in a school or homeschooling
- Experience working or volunteering for an NGO is a plus
- Experience working in cross-cultural environments
- Passion towards service and social impact
Pre-deployment training: Once successfully selected, you will be required to undertake our cultural sensitivity; safeguarding; security; health and safety; and crisis management training ahead of your arrival in Nigeria. We will also provide you with our teachers guide which contains every relevant information you may need.
Visa, transportation and accommodation arrangements: As this is a volunteer program, successful candidates are expected to arrange their own visas, travel insurance, and flights. Local transportation upon arrival in Nigeria will be coordinated by us, specifically related to our program. Please note that personal travels within the country will not be covered. Accommodation arrangements, including breakfast as provided by the reservation, will be facilitated by us. However, all other meals, including lunch and dinner, will be the responsibility of the volunteers. While we can support with visa arrangements, please be aware that associated costs will be borne by the individual volunteers.

Safety protocol
Ensuring the safety of our volunteers is paramount to us. We prioritise security by conducting thorough security assessments before deploying teachers. These assessments are carried out by a reputable local security company in Nigeria. Our programs are also strategically located in the country’s capital, Abuja, and teachers are allocated accommodation in city centres known for their safety compared to remote areas. In addition, we conduct mandatory safeguarding; and safety training for successful applicants; volunteers are also provided with contact details of our safeguarding officer for assistance where needed; and our dedicated team in Nigeria and the UK are always readily available to support. We maintain open communication channels, including regular bespoke check-ins through in-person meetings, phone calls, and emails. Furthermore, we arrange periodic visits to address any concerns, providing psychosocial support that ensure the mental well-being of our volunteers.

Our teaching program is held in Nigeria. Volunteer teachers are expected to travel abroad (ideally from UK to Nigeria) to provide in-person training to our beneficiary teachers.
To volunteer for our teaching program, you need to have at least 4 – 5 years of teaching experience, with the relevant UK teaching certification.
No, there is no deadline for enrolment. Applications are open throughout the year.
We offer around 3 teaching programs throughout the year, usually held during the school holidays. If you are selected as a volunteer, you will be provided with ample notice to prepare you for your participation in the program.
You will need to submit your CV to enrol into the program. You will be notified of any further documentation required if you are selected for the program.
If needed, we can offer support in arranging your travel visas. However, all associated costs will be borne by yourself.
Yes, it is mandatory for volunteers to acquire travel insurance before traveling. Ensuring the safety of our volunteers is a top priority, and therefore, obtaining travel insurance is a mandatory requirement as per our policies. While we can assist in facilitating the acquisition of travel insurance, please note that all associated costs will be the responsibility of the individual volunteer.
No, enrollment into the program is free of charge. However, as a volunteer, you will be responsible for covering the costs of your visa, return flight, and meals. We will provide accommodation and arrange local transportation upon your arrival in Nigeria. Please note that any additional personal travels will be at your own expense.
No, ACE Education will select the locations for the training.
Our training program is currently being held in Abuja, FCT – the country’s capital.
Yes, you can. You can travel for as many trainings as you want if there is a need for your expertise.
No, the travel is usually for a specified number of days (5-days). Volunteers cannot extend their stay and are required to leave once the training is completed.
All selected volunteers will be provided with cultural sensitivity training, safeguarding training, security training, health and safety training, and crisis management training before departure.
